Katherine V. Hynes

Counsel

Katherine is an experienced trust and estates litigator who honed her skills as a prosecutor at the federal, state, and county levels.

Litigation Specialist Katherine V. Hynes, Esq. has been practicing law since graduating from Fordham University School of Law in 2011. With a passion for courtroom practice, Katherine began her career honing her skills in the Bronx District Attorney’s Office, where she prosecuted all types of felonies and misdemeanors, specializing in narcotics cases. Pivoting to civil litigation, Katherine worked for the Westchester County Attorney’s Office, where she practiced in both state and federal courts, and is admitted to practice in the Southern District of New York, where she also interned for the U.S. District Court Judge the honorable Paul A. Crotty. Through her work with Westchester County, Katherine gained invaluable experience across a wide range of practice areas, including all types of commercial litigation, employment law, guardianship, and public benefits cases.

Throughout her career in the Bronx and Westchester, the one experience that Katherine felt was lacking was the ability to develop and foster long term relationships with clients. Joining Smith Legacy Law has allowed Katherine to put her considerable experience to work for her clients while also providing the opportunity to form meaningful connections that support the Smith Legacy Law ethos of being its clients lawyers for life.

Katherine’s sense of compassion and justice was forged through her public service legal work, and these same traits help her connect with her clients and advocate zealously for their best interests. While she has left government service professionally, Katherine remains actively involved in Greenwich town politics, serving as a representative to the nonpartisan Representative Town Meeting (RTM) and as a member of the specially selected RTM Claims Committee, where she works in close connection with the Greenwich Town Attorney’s office and Town Administration to evaluate legal disputes involving the Town of Greenwich. Katherine also serves on the Board of the Round Hill Association in her neighborhood in Greenwich, where she lives with her husband, Tom and their daughter.
