Jason Smith
Founding Partner / Chief Legal Strategist
Jason J. Smith founded Smith Legacy Law to deliver sophisticated, high-touch advice on estate-related matters to individuals, family offices, private companies, and businesses with substantial assets to protect.
Our Chief Legal Strategist and Founder Jason J. Smith, Esq. has been practicing law since graduating from Yale Law School in 2006. Immediately after law school, U.S. District Court Judge Robert N. Chatigny selected Jason from among hundreds of applicants for a coveted position as a Law Clerk. Following his clerkship with Judge Chatigny, Jason settled in Connecticut, taking an associate position in commercial litigation with Wiggin and Dana, LLP, where he discovered a passion for Trusts and Estates planning, administration, and litigation. As an Associate with the Manhattan firm Katten Muchin Rosenman, LLP, Jason quickly proved himself as a critical asset. After a string of successful litigation victories, Jason created the Trusts and Estates Litigation Department as a partner with Meltzer, Lippe, Goldstein & Breitstone, where he built a strong litigation team to serve his clients’ needs. Always an entrepreneur, Jason went out on his own with the 2018 creation of “The Law Offices of Jason J. Smith, LLC”, now “Smith Legacy Law, LLC.” With Smith Legacy Law, LLC, Jason has built a stellar, hand-picked team, who has scored a succession of legal victories that includes making new law in the trusts and estates litigation field.
Prior to his legal career, Jason followed up his undergraduate business degree from NYU with his work at PricewaterhouseCoopers, where he traveled all over the world working on business process, information systems, and revenue growth assignments. Jason took his experience and created an internet marketing firm, Ascension Communications, which he successfully operated prior to attending Yale Law School.
The most relevant aspect of Jason’s biography, however, is his formative years spent in Oklahoma and Texas. Born to a line of farmers and ministers, Jason developed early on the work ethic, thoughtfulness, and concern for others that his clients value. These characteristics are integral to Jason’s success in life. They are the reasons he has become known among clients as their “lawyer for life.” Other law schools teach what the law is, anyone can learn that. Jason and Smith Legacy Law go beyond that to include what the law should be. That is what makes us special, and this creative philosophy is why we are successful in protecting our clients’ financial legacies in their business and in their lives.
In forming his own law firm, Jason has created a high-touch, technology forward practice committed to efficiency, transparency, and creating life-long relationships with clients.
Jason lives in Greenwich, Connecticut with his husband Dominick and their two children.
